The Vice-Chancellor, Bells University of Technology, Ota,Ogun State, Prof. Jeremiah Oludele Ojediran, on Wednesday, announced that the institution has produced 91 first-class graduates among 1,188 students
Ojediran said this at a press conference held to mark the 16th Convocation Ceremony and the 20th anniversary of the institution.
The conference, was attended by key officials, including the Registrar, Mr. Lamidi Tafa, the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Hakeem Adeyemi, deans from the various colleges, and heads of departments.
Prof. Ojediran highlighted the university’s commitment to academic excellence, noting the impressive achievements of its students.
The breakdown of the 2022/2023 academic session’s first-degree graduates revealed that 55 first-class honours were achieved by students from the traditional undergraduate programme, while 36 were awarded to students from the direct entry top-up programme.
In total, the university graduated 91 first-class students across both programmes.
Other results included 505 students obtaining second-class upper degrees, 313 achieving second-class lower honours, and 60 graduating with third-class honours, bringing the overall total to 969 first-degree graduates.
Beyond the first degrees, Bells University also conferred 11 doctorate degrees, 163 master’s degrees, and 45 post-graduate diplomas, bringing the total number of postgraduate degrees awarded to 219.
Bells University of Technology, Nigeria’s first private university of technology, operates five colleges: the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, the College of Management Sciences, the College of Environmental Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the College of Food, Agricultural Science and Technology.
The university has gained recognition for offering unique undergraduate programmes in Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, and Telecommunications Engineering, a feat that sets it apart from other institutions.
At the press conference, Ojediran emphasized the importance of private universities like Bells University in national development.
He urged the Federal Government to recognize the pivotal role such institutions play in enhancing the nation’s economy, particularly as community-based institutions that actively contribute to their surrounding regions.
“Bells University of Technology operates on the same theatre of engagement as public institutions, producing quality manpower for the development of Nigeria.
This makes the university a community institution,” Ojediran remarked.
The Vice-Chancellor also assured the public of the university’s commitment to maintaining high academic standards, noting that all its programs have consistently received accreditation from relevant regulatory bodies, including governmental and professional agencies.
This, he explained, underscores the institution’s dedication to producing graduates who are well-equipped for the demands of the workforce.
Bells University has also forged national and international collaborations, one of which led to a N10 million donation towards its Agricultural Science programme.
The institution’s collaboration with Soilless Farms, where experts serve as adjunct lecturers, has further strengthened its offerings in the agricultural sector.
The university’s ongoing partnerships highlight its role as a key player in the academic and economic landscape of Nigeria.
One of the university’s notable achievements this year was its collaboration with the Centre for Climate Change to organize an awareness program for over 300 secondary school students from Ota and its environs.
Prof. Ojediran concluded his address by announcing the Best Student of the Year, a graduate from the Architecture Department, who achieved a remarkable 4.94 CGPA
