The peaceful neighborhood of Enagbare Street, located in the Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, was plunged into sorrow and mourning on August 4th, when a 34-year-old private school teacher, Joy Amadi, lost her life in a tragic incident caused by a collapsing water tank from a neighbor’s compound.

Amadi, who had recently completed her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, was a dedicated educator and a pillar of her family.

Her untimely demise has left her parents, Mrs. Beatrice and Mr. Michael Amadi, in deep grief and shock.

The incident occurred when an overhead tank positioned atop a neighbor’s newly constructed building suddenly gave way, crashing through the roofing sheet of Joy Amadi’s home.

The tank, with a devastating force, entered her room and claimed her life in a matter of moments.

Narrating the heart-wrenching event, Mrs. Beatrice Amadi, Joy’s mother, shared that her daughter was helping her shell melons inside the house when the tank collapsed. It was a day of respite for Mrs.

Amadi, who had free periods from work, but it turned into a day of unimaginable tragedy.

Joy Amadi’s contributions to her family extended beyond her role as a daughter. Described as kind, humble, and hardworking,

Joy not only played an integral part in the family’s emotional well-being but also helped with financial responsibilities, including paying the house rent.

Her sudden absence has created a void that her parents believe cannot be filled.

The grief-stricken father, Mr. Michael Amadi, shared that he received a distressed call while at work, only to return home to the heart-wrenching news of his daughter’s passing.

The community, shocked by the incident, has been searching for answers.

Sources within the community point towards a possible construction oversight as the cause of the tragic mishap.

According to insiders, the shoddy work carried out by an engineer on the neighboring building could have led to the tank’s collapse.

This building, reportedly owned by an absentee resident, had undergone construction without proper oversight, and the consequences were tragic.

Mr. Michael Amadi confirmed that the site engineer responsible for the neighboring building’s construction has been taken into police custody.

Additionally, the remains of Joy Amadi have been placed in an undisclosed morgue as the investigation unfolds.

Amadi’s family hails from Affa in the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, emphasizing the interconnectedness of communities across Nigeria.

As the investigation continues, the family, community, and entire nation await answers to how such a heartrending incident could occur.

The Edo Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, expressed that they are still awaiting further details and information about the incident to provide a comprehensive response to the community’s questions
