    Daud Olatunji

In a dramatic confrontation on the Makurdi-Lafia Federal Highway, the Benue State joint security task force, spearheaded by retired Chief Superintendent of Police Jeffrey Iorbee, arrested nine individuals believed to be illegal tax collectors.

What began as a routine enforcement operation led to a violent clash with local youths in Daudu, Guma Local Government Area.

Initially, three suspects were apprehended, but their transport to Makurdi, the state capital, was obstructed by local youths and accomplices who blocked the highway.

In response, the police fired warning shots into the air to clear the road, earning the appreciation of weary motorists plagued by extortion.

Shortly thereafter, the task force returned to Daudu with military reinforcements, engaging the hoodlums and ultimately arresting six more suspects.

All materials seized from the suspects and their operational bases were set ablaze.

Motorists, who have long been victims of armed robberies due to the activities of these hoodlums, praised Governor Hyacinth Alia for his decisive action in purging the roads of criminals.

Under the watchful eye of military personnel, the task force ensured the removal of all road blockades before transporting the nine suspects to the Benue State police headquarters
