The management of Seat of Wisdom Secondary School, Aliade, Benue State, has expelled 11 students over their involvement in a violent altercation that led to the stripping of a female student, as captured in a viral video that sparked outrage nationwide.
The disturbing footage, which circulated widely on social media, showed the victim being overpowered and stripped by fellow students in school uniform during a fight, while others cheered, mocked her and recorded the incident.
Findings by PLATFORM TIMES revealed that the incident, which occurred about a week ago, did not take place within the school premises but in a bush behind the institution during extension classes organised for Junior Secondary School 3 and Senior Secondary School 3 students.
A source familiar with the incident disclosed that the altercation began as a disagreement between two female students who agreed to settle their dispute away from the watch of teachers.
“What started as a one-on-one fight soon escalated when their friends joined in. It became chaotic as students began tearing one another’s uniforms, including underwear, while some stood by to film and ridicule the victim,” the source said.
The situation reportedly drew the attention of teachers, who intervened to restore order and prevent further escalation.
Following the incident, the school authorities suspended the extension classes and commenced disciplinary proceedings against those involved.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that nine girls and two boys were eventually expelled after a probe by the school’s Disciplinary Committee found them culpable of participating in the assault and the recording and circulation of the video.
In separate letters issued to the affected students’ parents, the school said the decision followed a thorough investigation and was aimed at upholding discipline and protecting the institution’s reputation.
The letters, signed by the principal, read in part, “Following the recommendation of the school’s Disciplinary Committee after a thorough investigation into your involvement in fighting and the unlawful posting of a video on social media, which violates school rules and regulations and tarnishes the image of the school, you are hereby expelled with immediate effect from March 23, 2026.”
The incident has also attracted the attention of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, which directed its Benue State command to collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken.
The development has continued to generate public condemnation, with many calling for stricter measures to curb bullying and violence in schools, as well as stronger safeguards to protect students from abuse and exploitation.
