Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation and member of the House of Representatives for Bichi Federal constituency, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the 22 Kano athletes, who were involved in an accident while returning from the National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Athletes, sports officials, medical personnel, administrators, and a journalist died in the fatal crash, which occurred in Dakatsalle town in Kura Local Government Area, about 50 kilometres from Kano.
In a statement on Monday, the rep described the incident as a great loss to Kano and the sporting community in Nigeria.

He said, “This is a great loss to not only the families of the deceased or Kano state, but to also Nigeria in general.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the athletes and the officials, the Kano State Ministry of Youth and Sport Development and the sports community in Kano State and Nigeria.
“I ask Allah the Almighty to repose the souls of the athletes and give their families the fortitude to bear the loss. Amin.”
