Tragedy struck in the early hours of Thursday when Bishop Shina Olaribigbe, founder of Rapture Empowerment International, was fatally stabbed while attempting to mediate a domestic dispute between a couple in Osogbo.
Sources revealed that the couple, known for their tumultuous relationship, had been living separately despite not being legally divorced.
The wife, who served as an interpreter in Bishop Olaribigbe’s church located in the BCGA area of Osogbo, had reportedly been ill, prompting the bishop’s visit to her residence.
In a shocking turn of events, the estranged husband arrived at the scene and allegedly found the clergyman in the wife’s room.
Enraged, he accused Bishop Olaribigbe of inappropriate behavior, leading to a heated confrontation.
The situation escalated, and the husband allegedly stabbed the bishop multiple times in the chest, killing him instantly.
A church member, speaking anonymously, confirmed the incident, stating, “The pastor died on the spot after being stabbed. It’s devastating for the church community.”
The Osun State Police Command swiftly detained the husband and wife at the Dugbe Police Division for questioning.
Public Relations Officer Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident, stating, “The couple was estranged but not legally separated.
The bishop had often intervened in their disputes. On this occasion, he was at the wife’s residence when the husband arrived and allegedly stabbed him in a fit of rage.”
Opalola added that initial investigations suggest the husband may have suspected an affair between his wife and the bishop, though these claims remain unsubstantiated.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the full details,” she said.
Bishop Olaribigbe was well-known for his peacekeeping efforts and pastoral care within the community.
His death has left many in shock and mourning. His body has been deposited at the morgue of the University of Osun Teaching Hospital.
This tragic incident underscores the dangers faced by those attempting to mediate in domestic disputes and highlights the need for peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms.
