Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has accused the party’s Deputy National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo, of plotting to manipulate the forthcoming ward and local government congresses in Lagos State.
In an open letter addressed to the PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) on Friday, George alleged that Koshoedo had single-handedly taken control of the distribution of congress forms, sidelining party leaders in the state.
George described the move as “unacceptable, unjust and insulting,” warning that it could trigger chaos and legal battles that would destabilize the party in Lagos.
“It is worrisome that Koshoedo, who has not been involved in the activities of the party in the state, either financially or otherwise, collected the forms for the congresses and decided to single-handedly determine the modus operandi of distributing the forms,” George said.
The PDP chieftain further lamented that Koshoedo ignored efforts by Lagos party leaders, including two life members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), to build consensus among members at the grassroots.
“By his actions, Koshoedo has brought about acrimony and a situation that may lead to mayhem, disturbance of public peace, and court actions. We appeal to you to use your good offices to remedy this situation before it escalates,” he warned.
George also blamed the PDP’s poor performance in the 2023 elections on what he called “self-aggrandizement, greed, and selfish ambitions” of some individuals who, he claimed, consistently worked against the party’s interests.
He disclosed that the Lagos chapter was ready to pay for congress forms, provided they were distributed in a fair and transparent manner.
The PDP has fixed its national convention for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, with congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels expected to produce delegates ahead of the convention.
