Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has questioned the involvement of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the newly formed political coalition anchored by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing his presence as puzzling and calling on him to return to the PDP.
George made his remarks during an interview on Arise News, where he addressed the recent moves by prominent political figures—including Obi, Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, Chibuike Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai—to form a new alliance with the goal of unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The elder statesman, while acknowledging the coalition’s objective, criticised the exodus of former PDP stalwarts into what he termed a “divided house,” warning that disunity among opposition parties could jeopardise their chances in 2027.
“When I saw Peter Obi there, I was wondering what he was doing there,” George said. “Which of them had not been part of PDP?
They benefited from this party. Do you disown your father’s house? What are you looking for if not personal reasons—selfishness, self-centeredness?”
George said that while the PDP had faced internal challenges, including disputes over the party’s representation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the issues had been resolved, positioning the party for a political comeback.
“We were in crisis for a while, but we’ve been able to resolve that,” he noted.
“Those jumping ship, I wish them the best of luck. But the people that matter are the electorate. The voice of the people is the voice of God. I have no doubt in my mind that PDP can do it again.”
He cautioned that any effort to remove President Tinubu would require unity among opposition forces, not fragmentation.
“You want to kick Bola out in 2027, and you want to divide the house? It doesn’t work that way,” he warned.
The coalition, composed of notable politicians from across party lines, is seen as an emerging force ahead of the next general election.
However, Bode George’s comments underscore the tension and rivalry still simmering among opposition blocs, especially within the PDP and its offshoots.
