Chief Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, expressed deep concern about the escalating security challenges in the country, emphasising that the situation has surpassed the realm of political manoeuvring.

Addressing the recent surge in violence, particularly in Plateau State, George called on President Bola Tinubu to confront the pressing issue of insecurity, highlighting the urgency of the matter.

He stressed that the current state of affairs demands a serious, non-political approach.

“The state of our nation is in a shambolic situation, marked by perpetual despair and despondency.

There is hunger and anger in the land; the insecurity has spiraled beyond control,” George remarked during the interview.

Referring to Tinubu’s New Year speech and objectives for the year, George acknowledged the challenges ahead for the president and urged a collaborative effort from all Nigerians.

He stated, “This is not the time to play politics; it is our nation. Bola Tinubu has a significant task ahead, and I pray for him; I pray for our country.”

Discussing the necessary steps to address the security menace, George emphasized the need for modern technology, citing surveillance and equipment as essential components.

He proposed a strategy reminiscent of developed countries, suggesting the implementation of extensive camera systems to monitor activities remotely.

Furthermore, Chief Bode George reiterated the importance of establishing state police, emphasizing that each state should have its police force on the ground.

He argued that community involvement is crucial in policing, stating, “Police work is a communal effort, meaning you will employ people from that community to do the police work.”

In conclusion, George called for a collective commitment to tackling insecurity, urging a united front against the challenges facing the nation.
