The popular monthly interview discourse, Boiling Point Arena, is set to elevate the discussion on Nigeria’s escalating debt crisis, which has reached a staggering N121.67 trillion ($91.46 billion) as of March 2024.

This Sunday, July 14, 2024, marks the next edition of the global online discourse, to be held via Zoom and broadcast live on Sweet 107.1 FM for a two-hour session.

In its 21st edition, Boiling Point Arena will feature two distinguished experts in the fields of economy and public policy reforms: Dr. Paul Alaje and Prof. Remi Aiyede.

The topic for this month’s discourse is “Nigeria and the Debt Trap: How Unbridled Borrowing is Pushing Nigeria into Insolvency and the Way Out.”

Boiling Point Arena, a once-a-month current affairs programme  with a substantial online following, was founded by Dr. Ayo Arowojolu, a media professional with a diverse 34-year career spanning the media, banking, and education sectors.

Dr. Alaje and Prof. Aiyede will dissect the fraudulent practices that have plunged Nigeria into its current debt crisis, attributing the situation to successive regimes’ imprudent borrowing and spending habits.

They will also propose strategies to halt the systemic culture of jeopardizing Nigeria’s future for present-day extravagances.

Dr. Paul Alaje serves as the Chief Economist at SPM Professionals and is a renowned consultant in economic, financial, business, and policy development.

Prof. Remi Aiyede, a Professor of Political Institutions, Governance, and Public Policy at the University of Ibadan, is a Fellow of the Pan-African Scientific Research Council and an alumnus of the Fulbright Study of the US Institute of National Security Policy.

The event will also feature a keynote speech by the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, who will speak in his capacity as Chairman of the Boiling Point Council of Royals and Elders.

Dr. Eddy Ademosu, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and a prominent public relations icon, stated that the discourse aims to chart a new path for Nigeria’s economic revitalization.

He praised the management of Sweet FM, led by its promoter Senator Olugbenga Obadara, for supporting the Boiling Point platform and expanding its reach through their terrestrial and online channels.

BOILING POINT, a news and general interest group, boasts a diverse membership that includes over 300 professors, technocrats, industry leaders, High Court justices, traditional rulers, security experts, media professionals, and other eminent personalities.
