Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has revealed that his administration spent about N100 billion on security interventions across the state in 2025, stressing that safety remains central to development.
The governor made the disclosure during a visit to His Highness the Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ali Ibn Mamza, where he condoled with the monarch over recent attacks in the area that claimed several lives.
He also commended security agencies and local communities for the successful rescue of 12 abducted female farmers.
Zulum said the visit aimed to assess the security situation in the Askira/Uba communities and explore strategies to address ongoing threats. He lamented that insecurity has scared contractors away, delaying the reconstruction of roads and other key infrastructure.
“Security is important; without it, there can be no peace. I have plans to construct roads, but the challenge is that contractors are reluctant to work in these areas,” he said.
The governor disclosed plans to establish a quarry site in Gwoza and deploy 100 trucks for road construction through the state’s Road Maintenance Agency.
He also reiterated his commitment to developing tertiary institutions, a computer institute, a JAMB center, and a tertiary campus in Uba.
“In this year, we spent about N100 billion on security alone. Beyond that, we have plans for education, health, and infrastructure to improve the lives of our people,” Zulum added.
