The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has facilitated the return of Adeola, the 41-year-old daughter of veteran Nollywood actress Jumoke George, from Mali, four years after she was declared missing.
Adeola’s mysterious disappearance had sparked public concern and emotional appeals from her family, especially her mother, who had earlier shared her ordeal during an emotional appearance on the Talk to B show hosted by actress Abiola Bayo.
In the interview, Jumoke had revealed that her daughter had been living with her grandmother in Ibadan before vanishing after telling the family she was heading to Lagos.
The actress recounted that all efforts to trace Adeola’s whereabouts had proved abortive until she was recently found in Mali under yet-to-be-disclosed circumstances.
In a swift and coordinated move, NiDCOM stepped in to facilitate her safe return to Nigeria.
The Commission, led by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed the successful repatriation and commended the collaborative efforts of relevant authorities in Mali and Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Monday, NiDCOM reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of Nigerians abroad, particularly those in distressing or exploitative situations.
The commission did not provide full details of the conditions under which Adeola was discovered in Mali but assured that she would receive necessary support, including psychosocial care and reintegration assistance.
Jumoke George, visibly emotional, expressed gratitude to NiDCOM and everyone involved in reuniting her with her daughter.
“This is nothing short of a miracle. I have cried, I have prayed, and now I can finally hold my daughter again,” she said.
The case of Adeola adds to the growing number of troubling reports involving missing Nigerians found in foreign countries, often under suspicious or exploitative conditions.
Human trafficking, illegal migration, and lack of awareness continue to be major challenges, especially for women and young people.
NiDCOM urged the public to remain vigilant and encouraged families to report cases of missing persons promptly.
The Commission also reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating with local and international partners to protect Nigerians in the diaspora.
Further details on Adeola’s recovery and the circumstances surrounding her stay in Mali are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
