In a surprising turn of events, two siblings, Abraham Adeola (18) and Segun Adeola (25), found themselves in front of the Ekiti State Magistrates’ Court, Ado Ekiti District, after being accused of stealing chicken valued at N45,000.
The Ekiti State Police Command arraigned the brothers for their alleged involvement in the poultry pilfering incident that unfolded in the Oke Bola area of Ado Ekiti on November 4.
The case, brought before the court by the police prosecutor, Celeb Leramo, details that the defendants are charged with conspiring to commit felony, namely, stealing.
Leramo stated that the brothers committed the act around 2 p.m. in Ado Ekiti on the fateful day.
Moreover, Leramo informed the court, “On the same date and place in the magisterial district, the defendants did steal the three boilers belonging to one Akogun Yemisi.”
The prosecution asserted that the offense falls under Section 421, 302 of the Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2021, and the accused now face potential legal consequences for their actions.
However, Gbenga Ariyibi, the counsel representing the defendants, appealed to the court for bail.
He assured the court that his clients would provide credible sureties and emphasized that they would not evade bail.
Following this request, the Magistrate, Saka Afunso, granted bail to each of the accused in the amount of N20,000, with one surety required for each in a like sum.
The case is set to be heard in the coming days, with the adjournment scheduled for Friday, November 10. As the legal proceedings unfold, the community will be closely following the outcome of this unusual case of chicken theft involving two siblings.
