Buhari’s Administration Extradites Nnamdi Kanu, Rejects Calls For Eliminationn

Femi Adesina, former Special Adviser to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, has said that  Buhari’s government opted for legal proceedings instead of eliminating Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed group Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Adesina, in his newly launched book ‘Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015-2023),’ asserts that extraditing Kanu back to Nigeria in June 2021 was a favor to provide him an opportunity to present his case in court.

Addressing a delegation known as ‘Highly-Respected Igbo Greats,’ Buhari explained his approach, stating, “In the past six years, I have developed a system where I don’t interfere with the judiciary.

That was why in the case of Kanu, I said the best was to subject him to the system.”

He emphasised the importance of letting Kanu make his case in court rather than taking drastic measures outside the legal process.

Buhari acknowledged the gravity of the delegation’s request for Kanu’s unconditional release, expressing sympathy for Chief Mbazulike Ameachi’s loss.

Ameachi, a First Republic Minister of Aviation, led the delegation to the presidential villa, highlighting the painful and pathetic situation in the East and seeking a resolution from the President.

During the meeting, Amaechi assured Buhari that if Kanu were released to him, the IPOB leader would change his rhetoric.

Despite the demands for elimination, Buhari reiterated his commitment to the legal process, emphasizing the need to go through the challenges of developing the country.

The unfolding events underscore the delicate balance between security concerns and adherence to legal processes in handling individuals like Nnamdi Kanu.
