In a dramatic on-air confrontation, Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, vehemently defended his position following inquiries by Rufai Oseni, co-host of The Morning Show on Arise Television.
The exchange, which unfolded during Tuesday’s broadcast, centered on reports suggesting Bwala’s alleged demotion from his initial role as presidential spokesperson.
Oseni pressed Bwala on the matter, prompting a sharp rebuttal from the presidential aide.
Bwala categorically denied any demotion, clarifying that he had been appointed as Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications initially, and subsequently transitioned to Special
Adviser on Policy Communication.
He emphasized that the adjustment did not signify a downgrade in status.
“I am still a presidential spokesman,” Bwala asserted, highlighting that the presidency had issued a statement outlining that there would now be three presidential spokesmen, including himself, Bayo Onanuga, and Sunday Dare.
The heated exchange escalated when Bwala criticized Oseni’s questioning style, asserting,
“You cannot control me or talk to me like a secondary school student. If you ask a question, park and listen to the answer.”
Addressing previous criticisms he had made of President Tinubu during his tenure with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bwala clarified, “I was in the opposition.
The role of the opposition is to oppose the government. Since January 10th, after visiting the president, I have spoken positively about him and supported his initiatives.”
Bwala concluded by inviting Oseni and the public to his office at the State House, emphasizing transparency in his role and access to the presidency.
