Capital City University, Kano, has secured full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for seven of its academic programmes, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s drive for academic excellence.

The approval followed the NUC’s accreditation exercise conducted in October and November 2024, with official confirmation conveyed via a letter dated April 30, 2025.

The letter, signed by Engr. Abraham Chundusu, Acting Director of Accreditation, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, affirms the commission’s endorsement of the university’s quality and standards.

According to a statement released by the university’s management on Friday, the accredited programmes include:Computer Science ;Cyber Security ;Software Engineering ; Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) ;Biotechnology ; Forensic Science ; and Digital Entrepreneurship.

However, the Mathematics programme received interim accreditation.

The university described the development as a testament to its commitment to academic quality, robust infrastructure, and a forward-looking educational vision.

It added that the accreditation reflects the hard work and dedication of its faculty, staff, and students.

“This is a proud moment for our university,” said the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Yusuf Bala Daraja.

“The Governing Council, Management, staff, and students received the news with great joy and fulfilment. I particularly salute the dedication, resilience, and collective effort of our academic and non-academic staff, as well as our students, whose contributions were central to this success.

These accredited programmes are skills-driven, and this recognition by the NUC affirms our commitment to delivering quality, relevant education.”

To build on the momentum, the university’s Governing Council has approved the development of frameworks for the introduction of postgraduate programmes in the newly accredited disciplines.

The Council noted that postgraduate training is integral to its long-term vision of becoming a centre of excellence in research, innovation, and advanced scholarship.

The statement, signed by the Registrar, Hajiya Rakiya Bello Dandago, urged all stakeholders to continue supporting the university as it scales new academic heights and strengthens its global competitiveness.
