The General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, Hon. (Dr) Kenny Bello, has distributed bags of rice and other food items to about 5,000 households across Ijebu East, Ijebu North and Ogun Waterside local government areas of Ogun State as part of his Yuletide outreach.
The distribution, which was flagged off on Monday at Bello’s residence in Ijebu-Imusin, was targeted at low-income families, widows, youths, the elderly as well as community and religious groups in the federal constituency.
Speaking at the event, Bello said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the impact of the prevailing economic hardship and ensuring that residents enjoyed the Christmas and New Year festivities.
He said, “This effort is one of the ways I can appreciate our people and put smiles on their faces during the festive season. The distribution will cut across Ijebu East, Ijebu North and Ogun Waterside.
“I am committed to the welfare of our people now and always. They have stood by us and the state government, and we will not let them down.”
The OGEPA boss urged residents to continue to support the current administration, stressing that sustained cooperation was necessary for the delivery of democratic dividends at the grassroots.
Local leaders, community members and representatives of various organisations attended the event, while beneficiaries expressed appreciation, describing the support as timely and impactful.
Meanwhile, leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Ijebu East Local Government have unanimously endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027 and Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for the Senate.
The endorsement was made on Monday at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Crownbirth Event Centre, Ijebu-Ife, where party chieftains passed a vote of confidence in the leadership of both leaders.
Prominent APC figures at the meeting included High Chief Segun Osibote, Hon. Onadeko Onamusi, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde (HACCO), Chief Johnson Ogundeko, Chief Femi Osifade, Chief Bayo Balogun and Hon. (Dr) Kenny Bello, among others.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Kehinde, described the endorsement as a strategic move to consolidate grassroots support for the party’s national and state leadership.
He said the decision aligned the local chapter with what he described as the progressive agenda for Nigeria and Ogun East.
The motion endorsing Tinubu and Abiodun was moved by Bello and seconded by Osibote, while the APC chairman in the council, Otunba Bayo Balogun, said the decision reflected the wishes of party members who had benefited from the policies of both leaders.
The meeting ended with a resolution to commence grassroots mobilisation across the 11 wards of the local government ahead of future elections.
