Church Worker Locks Clerics Inside Room, Demands N10m Ransom In Adamawa

In a shocking act of betrayal, an altar servant of a Catholic Church in Adamawa State has been accused of masterminding the abduction of two priests and demanding a ransom of N10 million before they were eventually rescued.

The two clerics, identified as Rev. Fathers Matthew David Dusami and Abraham Samman, were kidnapped on February 22 from their residence at a convent in Gweda Mallam, Numan Local Government Area.

Their ordeal took a dramatic turn when security operatives traced their location to the house of Taledo Demiel, a trusted church worker who allegedly orchestrated the crime.

Security sources revealed that Demiel had gone to collect the ransom at a designated spot but fled upon sensing the presence of law enforcement officers, abandoning his motorcycle in the process.

The vehicle was later traced to his residence, where the abducted priests were found locked inside a room, tied up, and in distress.

Following their rescue, the Bishop of Yola Diocese, Dr. Stephen Dami Mamza, confirmed the incident but refrained from commenting on the involvement of the altar servant.

Meanwhile, Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, condemned the abduction, describing it as an “unprovoked attack” on the clergy.

“The suspects, armed with dangerous weapons, stormed the priests’ residence around 4 am and whisked them away,” Nguroje said.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the religious community, raising concerns about security within church premises and the trust placed in those serving alongside clerics.

While the priests have regained their freedom, security agencies have intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect and his accomplices.
