The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, CJID, has announced the appointment of Akintunde Babatunde as its program director.
Babatunde will now be in charge of all programmatic activities including Journalism, Accountability, Development, and Dubawa at CJID, a top not-for-profit organizations in the Nigeria.
CJID in a memo through its executive director, Tobi Oluwatola, announced that the appointment came after a careful selection process and will take effect on March 1, 2023.
Oluwatola stated that Babatunde’s rise in the organization has been “meteoric-a testament to his passion for media development, stellar work ethic, exceptional leadership, and charisma, and that management was happy to announce the appointment.”
Prior to taking on his new role, Babatunde served as the first Deputy Director in charge of CJID’s development program.
He had led the organization’s efforts to advance research and policy work on six projects, including natural resources and extractives, human development, including health, education, and agriculture, conflict and security, climate change, and energy transition, throughout West Africa.
Babatunde joined the CJID in 2017, founded Dubawa, a project that encourages fact-checking culture and raises media literacy in West Africa.He wrote numerous pieces in that capacity, mentored more than 500 journalists, and was nominated for the 2018 African Fact-Checker Prize. Babatunde oversaw UDEME from 2018 to 2019 before founding the Natural Resources and Extractives Program (NAREP).

In a related development, PLATFORMTIMES Newspaper has congratulated Babatunde on becoming the Programme Director at CJID.
The media organization expressed their confidence in Babatunde’s ability to excel having followed his progress from his undergraduate days.
In a statement by its Acting Editor, Michael Babatunde, PLATFORM TIMES acknowledged his work on CJID’s Udeme project and Natural Resources and Extractives Programme (NAREP) which some staff members and interns were beneficiaries.

“Babatunde is not a new name in the media development space, we have followed his progress as individuals and as an organization right from school days. He has been that go to and example for young people willing to take a career in the media world.
“We have had some of our interns and staff take part in programmes under the tutelage of Babatunde especially Udeme project tracking and NAREP.
“One of our reasons for partnering with CJID on Media in Nigeria Elections (MiNE) was because of our previous individual encounters with Babatunde, we knew it’s another opportunity for us to understudy the good works at CJID”, the statement read.
