The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has approved a major shake-up in the Nigerian Army, with the redeployment and appointment of senior officers into key command, instructional, and staff positions across formations nationwide.
The move, according to Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, is aimed at strengthening leadership and repositioning the Army for greater operational effectiveness amid growing security challenges.
Those affected include Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at the Army Headquarters, two General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Corps Commanders, Commandants of training institutions, and Brigade Commanders.
At the Army Headquarters, Major General A.A. Adeyinka, formerly of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, has been appointed Chief of Logistics; Major General A.A.
Adekeye moves from Standards and Evaluation to Personnel Management as Chief of Personnel Management; while Major General T.B. Ugiagbe is now Chief of Standards and Evaluation.
Similarly, Major General A.A. Idris has been redeployed from Defence Headquarters to head the Army Intelligence Corps as Chief of Military Intelligence, while Major General M.O. Erebulu is now the new Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army.
The shake-up also produced new General Officers Commanding: Major General A.S.M. Wase takes charge of 1 Division/Sector 1 Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, while Major General C.R. Nnebeife assumes office as GOC 2 Division/Sector 3 Joint Task Force.
Among the new Commandants of Army training institutions are Major General M.O. Ihanuwaze (Finance School and Administration), Major General K.O. Osemwegie (Signal School), Major General A.J. Aliyu (Ordnance School), and Major General A.C. Adetoba (College of Logistics and Management).
The redeployment also affected Brigade Commanders, including Brigadier General M. Jimoh, who is now Commander 1 Brigade; Brigadier General N.E. Okoloagu, appointed Commander 2 Brigade; and Brigadier General A.A. Bello, posted to 6 Division Garrison/Sector 3 JTF South South, Operation DELTA SAFE.
While charging the newly appointed officers, General Oluyede urged them to redouble their commitment to duty and sustain the Army’s momentum in the ongoing war against terrorism, insurgency, and other security threats.
He reiterated that the welfare of troops remains a top priority, describing it as the backbone of operational success.
