Confusion has erupted in Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun’s camp over the emergence of two speakers in the state House of Assembly.

On Tuesday, eighteen lawmakers removed Speaker Olakunle Oluomo, representing Ifo1 constituency, and replaced him with Oludaisi Elemide from Odeda constituency.

However, 72 hours later, the embattled speaker fought back, insisting he remained the Assembly’s speaker.

Oluomo, addressing newsmen, disclosed that he had taken the matter to court, challenging the procedure.

He had also confirmed that he has been served the impeachment notice 24 hours after he was impeached.

The embattled speaker, critical of the removal process, insisted on being served the impeachment notice and receiving a fair hearing before a panel set up to probe the allegations before any removal.

PLATFORM TIMES reported that the press conference escalated the situation as aggrieved lawmakers were enraged and insisted Oluomo was no longer their speaker.

A lawmaker speaking with PLATFORM TIMES on Saturday condemned Oluomo’s approach, stating it was unnecessary.

Further information gathered by PLATFORM TIMES indicates lawmakers were scheduled to meet next week to make a final decision on Oluomo’s fate.

PLATFORM TIMES observed that the  governor’s body language has reportedly added to the confusion surrounding the political logjam.

Oluomo confirmed that several attempts by Abiodun to ease the tension failed as lawmakers insisted on their action.

Despite the government’s attempt to exonerate itself from the crisis, many political analysts indict the executive, claiming it enjoys the situation by not intervening as expected.

PLATFORM TIMES  reported that the mace, the symbol of authority in the house, was no longer with Oluomo as Elemide had taken possession.

However, the necessary tools to run the house successfully, such as documents, were still with Oluomo, who had not handed them over.

PLATFORM TIMES observed that the  house now has two speakers, one with the mace and the other with other paraphernalia of office.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that at least 17 lawmakers were solidly behind Elemide, while others were either with Oluomo or sitting on the fence.
