Contractor Begins Work On 107-Kilometre Ilara-Ilase Road Facilitated By Senator Yayi

Work has  reportedly  commenced on the long-awaited 107-kilometre Ilara-Ijoun-Eggua-Oja Odan-Ilase road, a major infrastructure project in Ogun West Senatorial District.

A statement issued by Chief Kayode Odunaro, Media Adviser to Senator Adeola on Sunday and made available to PLATFORM TIMES revealed that contractors have begun construction on Section 1 of the road, which  he said has been a longstanding priority for Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West), who facilitated its inclusion in the 2024 federal budget.

The statement further read that the  road cuts through four local government areas—Imeko Afon, Yewa North, Ipokia, and Yewa South—and is a crucial development for improving connectivity along Nigeria’s border with Benin Republic.

It is expected to provide a significant boost to trade, transportation, and the overall economy of the region.

Senator Adeola, who has championed the project for years, expressed his satisfaction with the commencement of work, particularly after decades of neglect.

In his statement, the senator commended the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for their unwavering support in securing the road’s funding and ensuring its swift commencement.

“During my senatorial campaign, I traversed parts of this road and witnessed firsthand the deplorable condition, where vehicles and people were completely engulfed in red dust.

It was a pitiful sight that I vowed to change. Today, I am proud to see that our collective efforts have brought about the much-needed transformation,” Senator Adeola stated.

The project, divided into four sections for ease of implementation, will traverse towns such as Ilara, Ata, Eggua, Ijoun, and Oja Odan, benefiting communities across the four local government areas.

Senator Adeola remains optimistic that the entire road will be completed on or before 2027, positioning it as a cornerstone of Ogun West’s economic development and aligning with national border area development policies.

The completion of this road is set to improve livelihoods, facilitate smoother transportation, and promote regional integration, making it a vital asset for the people of Ogun West and Ogun State at large.
