Corruption Crackdown: Lagos State Takes Swift Action Against LASTMA Officers

In a significant move to combat corruption within its ranks, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has terminated the appointments of five officials found guilty of corruption.

The decision, based on the recommendations of the Personnel Management Board by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, was executed at the Oshodi office in Lagos.

A statement released by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, revealed that the Commission had ratified every recommendation made by the Board during its meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2023.

This marks a firm commitment by the state to uphold integrity within its public service.

“While five LASTMA officials indicted for corruption received a letter of termination of appointment, the remaining two received letters of ‘reprimand’ for absence from duty posts without leave,”

The Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Adebayo Bakara Oki stated this, emphasizing that the disciplinary actions taken align with the existing rules outlined in the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.

Oki stated that such measures are crucial for the improvement of the agency and its ability to serve the public efficiently.

Oki further stressed the importance of public cooperation, urging citizens to share their experiences, both positive and negative, and provide evidence when applicable.

This transparent approach, according to Oki, is essential for maintaining accountability and fostering a sense of trust between the agency and the community it serves.

Oki implored road users in the state to consistently obey traffic laws. This recent crackdown on corruption within LASTMA sends a strong message about the state’s commitment to upholding ethical standards and ensuring a safer and more efficient transportation system for its residents.
