Corruption, Nepotism Behind Nigeria’s Economic Woes – Pastor Ikumapayi

The Pastor in charge of Ogun Province 4, Region 12 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Felix Ikumapayi, has identified corruption, nepotism, and lack of accountability in governance as significant contributors to Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Speaking during a praise night organized by the church on Sunday, Ikumapayi asserted that the economic hardship confronting Nigerians is largely self-inflicted rather than solely the result of external factors.

“The government needs to be more transparent, and people should be held accountable for their actions,” he said.

“When you have a system where people can deny the existence of millions of rice bags released by the government, then you know something is fundamentally wrong.”

Ikumapayi noted that the country is endowed with abundant resources but lamented that the absence of sincerity, determination, and faithfulness among leaders has hindered progress.

“If corruption can be stopped, if bribery is stopped, if leaders are sincere and faithful, then the country’s problems can be solved. We have the resources, both human and mineral, but we need determination and sincerity of purpose from our leaders to fix things squarely,” he stressed.

Addressing recent stampedes linked to the distribution of palliatives, which have claimed no fewer than 67 lives, including 35 children, Ikumapayi described the incidents as tragic and preventable.

He encouraged Nigerians to turn to God, casting their burdens upon Him for divine intervention. “When people come together to worship God, He will raise people to meet them at the point of their need,” he said.

The stampedes occurred in Ibadan, Anambra, and Abuja during efforts to distribute palliatives meant to alleviate the economic strain caused by rising living costs.

Also speaking at the event, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, represented by the National Overseer Emeritus, Pastor Joseph Obayemi, urged Nigerians to seek divine intervention in addressing the nation’s challenges.

Adeboye echoed Ikumapayi’s sentiments, emphasizing that Nigeria’s wealth in human and mineral resources could only translate to prosperity with sincere and determined leadership.

“Corruption and bribery must be stopped, and leaders must be sincere in their efforts to build the nation,” Adeboye stated. He expressed optimism that if Nigerians cry to God for help, the country would experience a turnaround and peace would reign.

The praise night, according to Ikumapayi, was organized to inspire hope and encourage Nigerians to look beyond their difficulties by focusing on God.

“A night of praise and worship can bring renewal, connection, and transformation,” he said.
