Following the recent bomb explosion at International Market Orlu, which claimed two lives and injured many, the Imo State Police Command has organized a one-day for officers on the identification, handling, and disposal of Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs.

A press statement issued from the desk of the command’s public relations officer, ASP Henry Okoye informed that the training was Led by CSP M.A. Ogini, Officer in Charge of the Anti-Bomb Squad.

He maintained that the training aimed to improve officers’ ability to detect and neutralize IED threats.

According to the press release, officers from all divisions and area commands across the state participated in the session.

ASP Henry in the press statement further informed that the training will be a regular exercise as the command will subsequently hold follow-up training within their units to share and reinforce the knowledge gained.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, while addressing men and officers of the command emphasized the growing use of IEDs in criminal activities by some suspected elements.

CP. Danjuma stressed the need for the police to be well-prepared to effectively address the threats posed by the use of explosives by non-state actors in order to ensure public safety.

The police commissioner urged officers to fully engage in the training, which he noted would significantly strengthen their ability to respond to the security challenges.

In upholding the mandate of the force, the police commissioner reaffirmed that the State Police Command is committed to improving its professional engagement.

He further stated that the knowledge gained from the training would be shared across all units, enhancing the force’s readiness to address emerging security threats and maintain public safety in the state.
