Court Convicts Forex Trader, Two Others For Internet Fraud In Ilorin

The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has secured the conviction of three internet fraudsters in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

The convicts are Kolawole Temidayo Joshua, a 26-year-old forex trader, Abdullahi Isiak, and Daniel Roland Orji.

The EFCC said that they were arrested by its operatives in Ilorin following intelligence reports on their internet-related activities.

The convicts were arraigned on Monday, October 10, 2023, before Justice Mahmoud Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court on separate one-count charges of cheating by personation.

According to the EFCC, Joshua pretended to be one Mia Phillips and induced one Daniel Murphy to part with $400 through gift cards. Isiak and Orji also impersonated different identities and defrauded unsuspecting victims of various sums of money.

They pleaded guilty to their respective charges and were sentenced on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.

Joshua was sentenced to six months imprisonment with an option of a fine of N500,000, (Five Hundred Thousand Naira only) and ordered to forfeit his iPhone 12 and $200, (Two Hundred United States Dollars) to the federal government.

Isiak was given a suspended sentence of six months imprisonment and ordered to forfeit his iPhone 12 Promax.

Orji was sentenced to six months imprisonment with an option of a fine of N150,000, (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira only) and ordered to forfeit his iPhone 6 and $250, (Two Hundred and Fifty United States Dollars).
