A Magistrate Court sitting in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has ordered a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test to be conducted to determine the paternity of Liam, the only child of late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The order, granted on Tuesday, followed an application by the singer’s father, Mr. Joseph Aloba, who insisted that a paternity test was necessary to establish whether Liam is indeed Mohbad’s biological son.
The presiding magistrate, Adefisoye Sonuga, ruled that the test must be carried out in a recognised and accredited medical facility either within Nigeria or abroad.
According to the court documents, Mohbad’s widow, Mrs. Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was listed as the respondent.
However, her lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, did not oppose the application, prompting the court to grant the request.
In the ruling, the court directed that two DNA tests be conducted — one in Nigeria and another outside the country.
It further ordered that both parties or their representatives must be present during the sample collection.
The court also empowered the Chief Medical Officer or Pathologist at the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos, where Mohbad’s remains are kept, to extract tissue, hair, or any other samples required for the test.
Aloba, through his counsel, Augustine Adegbemi from the chambers of Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN) & Co., argued that the clarification was crucial, given the implications for the child’s welfare and the legal responsibilities of his mother.
Justice Sonuga adjourned the matter until November 11, 2025, for further proceedings.
Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Records, died under controversial circumstances in September 2023, sparking nationwide protests, investigations, and calls for justice.
