A 34-year-old man, Femi James, was on Thursday ordered to be remanded in a correctional facility by an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over allegations of raping three sisters and another woman.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Adebola Adeola, declined to take James’ plea on the grounds of lack of jurisdiction.

She directed that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the case till June 19 for mention.

James, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a charge of rape, an offence said to have been committed over an extended period between 2017 and 2025 in the Akobo area of Ibadan.

According to the prosecutor, Sergeant Kehinde Olarotimi, the defendant allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victims—three sisters identified as Udomex G. (27), Udomex J. (28), Udomex B. (17)—and another woman, Idowu V. (28), all without their consent.

The alleged offence is said to contravene Section 358 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The court proceedings drew somber reactions from observers, with many expressing concern over the prolonged period during which the alleged acts occurred.

The case continues to attract attention as the public awaits the outcome of the DPP’s review.
