Court Remands Portable In Kwara Prison Over Failure To Meet Bail Conditions

Controversial Nigerian singer, Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, after failing to meet the stringent bail conditions imposed by an Upper Area Court.

The singer, famed for his hit track Zazoo Zeh, was arraigned on Monday following a complaint of defamation of character filed against him by veteran Fuji musician, Akorede Saheed, popularly known as Saheed Osupa.

Portable, who was earlier arrested by the police, was granted bail in the sum of N1 million. The court, however, attached tough conditions to the bail, including the provision of two sureties in like sum.

According to the court’s ruling, one of the sureties must be an official of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), specifically the Chairman or Secretary.

The second surety is required to be a property owner residing in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin, with a valid Certificate of Occupancy.

Unable to fulfill these terms, the singer was ordered to be remanded at the correctional facility pending the perfection of his bail.

His remand adds to a string of controversies that have trailed his career in recent times, with legal troubles continuing to dog the flamboyant artiste.

The matter has been adjourned for further hearing, as efforts by his legal team to meet the bail conditions continue.
