The best graduating student, class of 2024, at Crescent University Abeokuta, Daniel Oyeniyi has applauded religious tolerance of the institution, stressing that he was never forced to go to the mosque.

Oyeniyi will be collecting, among others, the vice chancellor’s prize for the best graduating student at the 16th Convocation of the institution which prides itself as citadel of academic and moral excellence.

Emphasizing religious tolerance of the institution, Oyeniyi said “it’s something I do say every time that there’s no case of religious segregation in Crescent University and they don’t force you to go to a mosque. The school preaches religious tolerance in its totality”.

Oyeniyi, one of the beneficiaries of Prince Adesegun Ajibola SAN, who is the Proprietor and Chairman Board of Trustees of the university, revealed that he did not know his sponsor until he got to 300 level, a decade of his sponsorship.

Oyeniyi emerged the 2023/2024 valedictorian with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.95 from the department of mass communication, the first graduate to break the record.

Expressing his gratitude to Prince Adesegun Ajibola who has been sponsoring him since his secondary school days, Daniel, son of a pastor, unveiled that he was the first university graduate to emerge from his paternal family.

He said in an exclusive interview that
“It’s God’s plan. How would someone be sponsoring someone’s education for over ten years and not knowing who he has been spending on? The first time I saw him was when I got to 300 level.

“The only man that did come around was his Personal Assistant, Mr. Kola Idowu. Even my parents have not met my sponsor. I will just describe it as something done from a man after God’s heart”, ecstatic Daniel explained.

Asked about his reading method, he hinted that
“I don’t really have a study pattern, I read anytime I feel like, but I can’t do without reading for at least 30 minutes in the morning, because that’s when the human brain assimilates better.”

On his best course and favourite lecturer, he said “all my lecturers are my favorite, but I can’t overlook the mentorship from Dr. Jamiu Folarin. Thanks to him I have a Solutions Journalism story tracker, a research certificate from CEREDEM/ PAN research group in collaboration with RUDN University, Russia and also several E-certificates from his mentoring”.

Describing the standard of Mass Communication in Crescent University, he said “Crescent Mass Communication is top notch, because we have qualified lecturers in all areas of Mass Communication and they don’t only base their lectures on theories alone, but also delve into practicals, like the Advertising and Public Relations Campaigns, Specialized Broadcast Production, Magazine and Newspaper Productions, Book Publishing and Production, Digital Journalism, Media Law and Ethics, Website Operations and many others.

The department has never gotten anything less than 90% accreditation scores since its establishment. “
