President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that no amount of criticism will deter his administration from implementing policies he believes are in the best interest of the nation.
Tinubu made the remark on Tuesday at the public presentation of Being True To Myself, an autobiography authored by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido.
The event, held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja, drew a gathering of political leaders and statesmen.
Represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the president reaffirmed his commitment to difficult but necessary reforms.
“The president welcomes constructive criticism at all times in the spirit of freedom of speech and democratic engagement,” Idris said.
“But he will also never allow himself to be distracted from doing what is right for Nigeria.”
Tinubu praised Lamido for his contribution to the country’s political development, despite belonging to the opposition.
He described the autobiography as “an important addition to Nigeria’s political literature and democratic discourse.”
“This is not merely the unveiling of a book. It is the celebration of a life defined by courage, consistency, and commitment to democratic ideals,” he added.
The president further noted that Lamido’s political journey and outspoken nature are chronicled in a way that offers deep insights for scholars, journalists, and public servants.
He urged Nigerians to read the book, saying it will “remain instructive for many years.”
Speaking on the economy, Tinubu said the country was beginning to reap the benefits of the reforms initiated under his leadership.
“After a somewhat rocky start, owing to the toughness of the inevitable reforms, we are now entering an era of intended beneficial outcomes, underlined by macroeconomic stability,” he said.
Also speaking at the launch, former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, who was represented by ex-INEC Chairman Attahiru Jega, hailed Lamido for offering a forthright and passionate account of his life and political journey.
“As good autobiographies are expected to do, he has given us a rich personal account of his background, experiences, challenges, triumphs, and post-factual reflections and analysis,” Jega said.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who wrote the foreword to the book, recounted how he appointed Lamido as foreign affairs minister during his first term in office despite not knowing him personally.
“I saw in him a man of admirable character and commitment to national service,” Obasanjo wrote.
Lamido, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is widely regarded as one of the most outspoken figures in Nigeria’s political space.
The book launch was attended by prominent politicians, academics, and members of civil society.
