… Police Launch Investigation, Recover Empty Sachets Of Suspected Substance
A Customs officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) Lawal Tukur, has been found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in Katsina State after allegedly spending the night with three women.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the incident occurred on Wednesday, October 15, at Murjani Hotel, located in the heart of Katsina metropolis.
Sources said the deceased, who had checked into the hotel the previous night, was found lifeless in his room around 8:30 a.m. by hotel staff, who immediately raised an alarm.
A hotel employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “When we knocked several times and there was no response, we had to open the door. We saw him lying still on the bed. We called for help, but it was too late.”
It was further learnt that three women — identified as Khadija Ali (34) of Dutsin Amare Quarters, Katsina; Aisha Lawal (30) of Ingawa Local Government Area; and Hafsat Yusuf (22) of Brigade Quarters, Kano — were linked to the deceased before his death.
According to sources, Khadija and Aisha had spent the night with the officer, while Hafsat reportedly joined them later and lodged separately in the same hotel.
Investigators reportedly found empty sachets of a suspected substance in the waste basket of the deceased’s room, fueling suspicion that he might have ingested or inhaled a toxic material before his death.
His remains were later evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Katsina, where a doctor confirmed him dead and deposited the body for autopsy.
Confirming the incident, a senior hotel source said security operatives had since taken statements from the three women, who were still in custody as of press time.
“The police and some Customs officials came here after the incident. They took away the women for questioning and collected the substances found in the room,” the source disclosed.
Although the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has yet to issue an official statement, an officer familiar with the case described the development as “tragic and shocking.”
He said, “ASC Tukur was known to be an easy-going and dedicated officer. We are waiting for the medical report to know what really happened.”
The Katsina State Police Command has begun an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the mysterious death.
Police authorities are yet to confirm whether the suspected substances found in the room contained any narcotic or toxic elements.
The death of ASC Tukur adds to a growing list of mysterious hotel-related deaths being recorded across the country, sparking renewed concerns over rising cases of drug use, sexual exploitation, and criminal setups in hospitality facilities.
