The Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted a Rolls Royce valued at N905 million alongside other contraband items worth over N1.4 billion.
The Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing at Idiroko, Ogun State.
Otunla explained that the luxury car, a 2021 Rolls Royce Ghost, was seized along with a 2014 Mercedes Benz 4Matic valued at N21.4 million and a 2018 Honda Accord worth N32.2 million.
He added that the command also impounded 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice—equivalent to more than seven truckloads—1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa, and 105 used tyres, among other prohibited items.
According to him, the total duty paid value of the seizures stood at N1,401,531,923.95 within the review period.
“These seizures are a clear demonstration of our determination to frustrate smugglers and economic saboteurs who persistently undermine the nation’s economy and security,” Otunla declared.
The Customs chief further revealed that the command generated N45,054,191 in July 2025, representing a 27.47 per cent increase compared to N35,327,852 recorded in July 2024.
He attributed the growth to enhanced compliance, improved border surveillance and stronger collaboration with stakeholders.
In line with inter-agency cooperation, Otunla officially handed over the seized narcotics to the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Command, Mr. Ekundayo Williams, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Controller also warned smugglers to desist from their activities, insisting that the command would not relent in its crackdown.
“No matter the sophistication of their tricks, our officers remain vigilant and resolute. We will continue to bring the full weight of the law against them,” he said.
Otunla commended his officers for their resilience, and also acknowledged the support of other security agencies and patriotic border community members who provide credible intelligence.
He assured that the command would continue to deepen collaboration, intelligence sharing and innovation in line with the policy thrust of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
