Dangote Foundation Donates Lifesaving Ambulance To Mainland Hospital After 10-Year Wait

The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has donated a brand new ambulance to Mainland Hospital, Yaba, Lagos, ending a decade-long wait and boosting the hospital’s emergency response and disease outbreak management capacity.

For over ten years, the hospital, formerly known as the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH), operated without a functional ambulance, hampering the speed and quality of patient referrals and emergency evacuations.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Friday, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Mainland Hospital described the donation as a “game changer,” noting that the absence of an ambulance had long been a major setback.

“Today, we received an ambulance from the Aliko Dangote Foundation to support our response activities in Lagos.

“ Aliko Dangote Foundation has taken care of our biggest headache. It is a game changer for us because we can now do a lot of things we couldn’t do before,” he said.

He expressed profound appreciation to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, for the timely intervention, saying, “We are really grateful, and our sincere gratitude goes to Mr. Aliko Dangote. We lacked an ambulance for about 10 years, but now we have one we can boast of. Thank you very much.”

Director of Health and Nutrition at ADF, Dr. Francis Aminu, who represented the foundation at the event, said the donation reflects ADF’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

“We are happy to help. The foundation is there to assist, especially in areas of health. They say health is wealth, and the foundation is committed to filling the gaps wherever they are found,” he said.

According to him, the foundation’s interventions go beyond charity, describing their work as “a duty” to ensure that no Nigerian is left behind due to lack of access to essential healthcare services.

“What we do at ADF isn’t just charity, it’s a duty. We believe that every Nigerian life is valuable, and health is the foundation on which all other aspirations are built.

“ This isn’t a one-time effort; we are committed to building systems that Nigerians can rely on, even in the toughest times,” Dr. Aminu said.

The Aliko Dangote Foundation has been at the forefront of major health interventions across the country, including efforts to combat malnutrition, polio, and pandemic outbreaks.

The latest donation further cements its role as a key player in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system, one intervention at a time.
