The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has unveiled its 2025 Annual National Food Intervention Project, committing N16 billion to distribute food to one million Nigerians nationwide.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the initiative, officially launched on Thursday in Kano State, aims to mitigate the ongoing economic hardship and food insecurity across the country.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, ADF Chairman Aliko Dangote, represented by his daughter, Marya Dangote, emphasized the foundation’s resolve to support the government in tackling hunger.
She disclosed that the project involves distributing one million bags of 10kg rice to the poor and most vulnerable Nigerians across the 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
“We are collaborating with state governments to ensure that the food reaches the most vulnerable individuals in each state,” she said.
Dangote also called for stronger partnerships between stakeholders to improve the quality of life for Nigerians through food aid, water supply, education, and economic empowerment initiatives.
She urged private sector players to support similar efforts, stressing that hunger and poverty alleviation require a public-private partnership approach.
“I commend the government at all levels for its efforts in addressing the food crisis. I am certain that with time, we shall overcome these challenges.
Therefore, let us support the government to achieve its target of a better life for Nigerians,” she added.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Aminu Abdulsalam-Gwarzo, described the intervention as a significant step in the fight against poverty and hunger.
He acknowledged that the initiative would particularly benefit fasting Muslims during Ramadan, easing their hardship.
To ensure transparent distribution, he noted that the state government had set up a committee comprising security agencies and other stakeholders.
ADF Managing Director, Zouera Youssoufou, reaffirmed Dangote’s commitment to humanitarian aid, emphasizing the foundation’s continuous support for government-led poverty alleviation programs.
The latest intervention adds to several other relief efforts targeting food insecurity in Nigeria.
In February 2025, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) allocated $2.5 billion to its 2023-2027 Nigeria Country Strategy Plan (CSP).
This five-year initiative, in partnership with the National Social Investment Programme Agency (N-SIPA), aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 and 2, focusing on eradicating poverty and hunger in Nigeria.
