Dangote Group Clarifies EFCC Visit, Asserts No Wrongdoing Accusations

In response to the recent visit by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to its Lagos headquarters on January 4, 2024, the Dangote Group has issued a statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the visit and assuring stakeholders that no accusations of wrongdoing have been made against the conglomerate.

The conglomerate disclosed that on December 6, 2023, it received a letter from the EFCC, requesting details of all foreign exchange allocations from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) between 2014 and 2023.

The Dangote Group, along with 51 other companies, received similar letters, prompting a response acknowledging receipt and seeking clarification on the specific subsidiaries requiring information.

Despite requesting additional time to compile the extensive documentation spanning 10 years, the EFCC did not provide the sought clarification and insisted on receiving the complete set of documents within the original timeframe.

The Dangote Group, committed to cooperation, assured the EFCC of its dedication to providing information, even proposing to share documents in batches.

On January 4, 2024, the company’s team delivered the first batch of documents to the EFCC, but the officials declined, insisting on visiting Dangote Group’s offices directly.

During this visit, the EFCC officers did not take any documents from the Head Office, as these were already in their possession.

Importantly, the statement emphasized that no accusations of wrongdoing have been made against any company within the Dangote Group.

The conglomerate remains law-abiding, ethical, and committed to assisting the EFCC in its ongoing investigation.

As a significant contributor to the national GDP, a leading private-sector employer, and one of the largest groups listed on the Nigerian Exchange, the Dangote Group reaffirms its commitment to the rule of law and fostering an investment-friendly environment.

The company calls for understanding and patience from stakeholders, assuring them of continuous updates on any further developments.
