In a major stride towards operational readiness, Dangote Refinery has welcomed its fourth crude shipment, consisting of one million barrels of bonny light crude, courtesy of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC).
The refinery, set to become the world’s largest single-train refinery, anticipates the imminent arrival of the fifth crude shipment, marking a key milestone in its journey.
The recent one million barrels represent the fourth installment of the six million barrels expected by the refinery, with three million barrels having been received earlier.
Aiming for a total of four million barrels before the end of 2023 and the remaining two by early January 2024, Akin Omole, Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, expressed confidence that these crude supplies are crucial for the refinery’s operational kickstart.
Omole emphasized that the successful delivery of the six million barrels would not only initiate the refinery’s operations but also pave the way for the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and LPG, eventually progressing to Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Highlighting the refinery’s significance in addressing fuel supply challenges in Nigeria and West African countries, the company affirmed its ability to meet 100% of Nigeria’s refined product requirements, along with surplus quantities for export.
The 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Petroleum Refinery, designed to process various crude grades, holds the potential to significantly impact the region’s energy landscape.
The refinery boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including two Single Point Mooring systems (SPMs) for crude intake, three SPMs for product discharge, and the capability to load 2,900 trucks daily at its gantries.
Furthermore, its marine facility can accommodate the world’s largest vessels, ensuring seamless operations. All products from the refinery are guaranteed to meet Euro V specifications.
President of Dangote Group, Mr. Aliko Dangote, expressed delight at reaching this significant milestone, highlighting the project’s importance for the country. Looking ahead, Dangote emphasized the focus on ramping up the refinery to full capacity and eagerly anticipated delivering the first batch of products to the Nigerian market as the next significant milestone.
