Former Minister of Defence, Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, on Saturday met with Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in what was described as a courtesy visit.
The meeting, which took place at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, was disclosed in a brief statement by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu receives in audience, General T.Y. Danjuma on a courtesy visit at the State House, Abuja,” the presidential aide wrote on X.
Details of the discussions were not made public as of the time of filing this report. However, the visit comes against the backdrop of heightened security challenges across parts of the country.
Danjuma, a respected elder statesman and former Chief of Army Staff, has in recent years been vocal over the deteriorating security situation, particularly in the North-Central region.
Speaking recently in Takum, Taraba State, the retired general reiterated his longstanding call for citizens to take proactive steps in safeguarding their communities, warning that overreliance on government security agencies may no longer be sufficient.
“The warning I gave some years ago is still as valid today as it was then. Nigerians must rise and defend themselves,” Danjuma had said, citing persistent attacks in states such as Benue and Plateau.
He expressed concern over the recurring killings and displacement of residents, stressing the need for community-based security arrangements to complement government efforts.
Saturday’s meeting with the President has fuelled speculation that security issues may have featured prominently in their discussions, especially amid renewed attacks in some parts of the country.
Neither the Presidency nor Danjuma’s camp had issued further clarification on the outcome of the closed-door engagement as of press time.
The visit underscores ongoing consultations between the Federal Government and key national figures as the administration grapples with the complex security landscape.
