The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has approved the appointment of Arc. Dr. Babatunde Adekoyejo Jolaoso as the 10th substantive Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that the appointment, effective from Friday, December 6, 2024, follows the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing Rector, Dr. Adeoye Odedeji, on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

A statement made available to PLATFORM TIMES on Wednesday read that the approval was conveyed in a letter with reference number MOEST/HSC.1/9, dated December 3, 2024.

The letter, signed by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, was addressed to the Chairman of the Governing Council, Emeritus Prof. Kamaldeen Balogun.

At a formal announcement held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, Emeritus Prof. Balogun expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for his consistent support for the institution.

He extended his best wishes to the newly appointed Rector, expressing confidence in his ability to advance MAPOLY’s academic and infrastructural growth.

    Jolaoso’s Career Trajectory

Arc. Dr. Babatunde Jolaoso brings decades of professional and academic experience to his new role. Until his appointment, he served as a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Architecture at MAPOLY, a position he had held since 2015.

His association with the institution dates back to 1982 when he joined as a Laboratory Assistant at its Oke-Egunya campus.

An alumnus of Ogun State Polytechnic (now MAPOLY), Jolaoso earned both his National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Architecture with Upper Credit between 1985 and 1988.

He later pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) and a Master of Science (MSc) in Architecture at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, between 1989 and 1994. In 2018, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Architecture from the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

    Professional Achievements and Affiliations

A registered architect, Jolaoso is a Fellow of the Association of Nigerian Chartered Architects, the Institute of Chartered Administrators of Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management, and the Institute of Management Specialists in the UK, among others.

He is also a full member of the Association of Architectural Educators in Nigeria and an incorporated member of the Chartered Institution of Building (UK).

Jolaoso’s academic contributions include 78 publications and four major research activities. Fluent in English, Yoruba, and Hausa, his diverse skill set reflects his commitment to excellence in both professional practice and education.

    Personal Life

Arc. Dr. Jolaoso is married to Dr. Azeezat Adeola Jolaoso, and the couple is blessed with children.

PLATFORM TIMES observed that the  MAPOLY community is optimistic about Jolaoso’s leadership, expecting his tenure to build on the achievements of his predecessor while steering the institution towards greater heights.
