In a poignant reminder of the tragic events that unfolded on the first day of 2023, the Ibara area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, remains haunted by the brutal murders of Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye.
As the one-year anniversary approaches, residents intensify security measures to ensure the safety of their community.
The couple, both accomplished professionals in their respective fields, met a horrifying end after returning from a New Year crossover church service.
The investigation led to the arrest of Lekan Adekanbi, a driver to the deceased family, who confessed to masterminding the murders over a rejected salary increment request.
A shocking revelation emerged as Adekanbi unveiled the motive behind the heinous act.
Feeling aggrieved by the couple’s refusal to increase his salary and grant a loan, he orchestrated the killings with two cultists.
The victims, Kehinde and Bukola, were brutally attacked in their private residence, leaving the community in shock.
The aftermath of the investigation exposed the escape of the prime suspect, Adekanbi, from police custody.
However, a determined pursuit by the State anti-kidnapping unit and the homicide unit eventually led to his recapture, along with the arrest of his accomplices.
