Bayo Onadipe, a final-year Computer Science student at Olabisi Onabanjo University, was tragically killed in a park in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, just days before Christmas.
Conflicting reports surround the incidents leading to his death as family and colleagues claim he was attacked with an iron rod by a vulcanizer, allegedly acting on park leadership’s order due to Bayo’s preaching disturbance.
Another version suggests Bayo had a mental disorder from drug abuse, leading to erratic behaviour.
Speaking about the incident, the father, Raymond Onadipe, explained that they were awaiting Bayo to finish the remaining months of his rent.
The family grew concerned when calls went unanswered, eventually leading to the discovery that Bayo’s phone was found by a Hausa man in Ode-Remo.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that upon investigation, the police found a trail of blood, fresh sand, and what seemed like a makeshift grave near where the phone was found. Community leaders reported discovering a body on December 18, assumed to be a hit-and-run victim, leading to a burial beside the road due to mutilation.
Further investigations revealed that Bayo was allegedly killed in Ago-Iwoye park.
Witnesses claimed Bayo was disturbing park officials, prompting an attack with an iron rod.
The family asserts that the chairman and park officials were involved in dumping Bayo’s body.
Onadipe, seeking justice, expressed dissatisfaction with the police response.
He said three policemen and park officials were arrested, with evidence seemingly confirming their involvement.
“We reside in Sagamu, while Bayo lived in Ago, where he attended school. As we awaited the completion of the remaining months of his rent, he suddenly went missing. On December 17, he studied in Computer Science.
“However, subsequent attempts to contact him were in vain, leading to the discovery of his phone in the possession of the Seriki of Hausa in Ode-Remo.
“Concerned, we reported the situation to the police and proceeded to Ode-Remo.
“Seriki claimed that his subjects found the switched-off phone on Thursday along Ago-Iwoye road. The police investigation uncovered disturbing details, including a possible burial site with traces of blood and mutilation.
“Further inquiries revealed a tragic incident in Ago-Iwoye, where Bayo was allegedly assaulted by garage officials, resulting in his death. Seeking justice, we reported the case to the police in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
“ Three policemen and the garage guys were arrested, with evidence linking them to the crime.
“The chairman, initially denying involvement, couldn’t refute the evidence presented.”
Bisola Onadipe, Bayo’s mother, also demands justice, emphasizing that all suspects must be held accountable for this tragic incident.
The grieving parents said they are determined to ensure the perpetrators do not escape justice.
…How Seriki Hausa Uncovered Bayo’s Shallow Grave
The father of the deceased shared a harrowing account of his son’s mysterious disappearance, which ultimately led to a grim discovery.
“We were hopeful that he had gone to camp and would return on the eve of Christmas. Continuous calls went unanswered until Friday when his elder brother dialed the number, only to hear the voice of a Hausa man around 9:12 pm,” Raymond recounted.
He said the man’s claim to be in Ode-Remo, adding a layer of confusion to the situation,adding that he personally called the number and spoke to the alleged finder, a man later revealed as Seriki of Hausa in Ode-Remo.
According to Seriki, his subjects found the phone switched off on the ground along Ago-Iwoye road on Thursday evening, coming from Ijebu-Ijesa.
Alarmed, Raymond said he suspected a foul play and headed to Ode-Remo after reporting the incident at the Sagamu police station, where officers accompanied him.
According to him,upon reaching Ode-Remo, Seriki detailed that the phone was discovered near fresh sand, resembling a grave, with traces of blood suggesting someone or something had been dragged from the road to the burial site.
He stated that the Police, acting on this information, questioned community leaders and vigilantes, uncovering a disturbing revelation.
The authorities said they learned that on December 18, a dead body was spotted on the road, and that they initially assumed to be a hit-and-run victim.
He said the community leaders said the Local government health workers buried the mutilated body beside the road due to its condition.
…Investigation Ongoing-Police
When contacted,the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Omolola Odutola, has confirmed an incident but refuted some details, stating that the majority of the information provided is not accurate.
Contrary to earlier reports, Odutola clarified that the deceased was not a preacher.
The police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death, with Odutola stating, “The investigation is ongoing.”

In the wake of the alleged murder of Oluwatosin Onadipe, an Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) student, Olusegun Kaka, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Culture, and Tourism, representing Ijebu-North 2 State Constituency, urged OOU students to remain calm.
This plea came during a peace parley at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where Kaka engaged with Students’ Union representatives, led by OOU SUG Vice President Comrade Taofeek Quadri.
Expressing condolences to the deceased student’s family, Kaka assured that the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Alamutu, had committed to prosecuting the alleged police officers involved in the murder and other culprits.
Kaka, accompanied by Damilola Soneye, emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue for justice and pledged to address broader concerns raised by students, such as school fees hikes and transportation issues.
During the meeting, Comrade Quadri highlighted the alleged involvement of policemen in the murder, urging relevant authorities to ensure the prosecution of those responsible.
He also brought attention to the students’ concerns about recent school fees hikes, requesting increased subvention to the institution and additional transportation resources for student mobility.
