The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress Delta State Council, Chief Goodluck Ofobruku JP, has condemned in totality the incessant increment in the pump price of fuel and other refined crude products in Nigeria just as he called on the state government to provide palliative for the state workforce to cushion the hardship imposed on workers by the fuel subsidy removal.
The state chairman made the call in a statement signed by him and was made available to newsmen at the Nigeria Labour Congress Secretariat, Asaba.
He noted that the incessant increment of the prices of refined crude products, particularly petrol, was an unnecessary infliction of suffering on the common man.
Adding, ” especially workers whose salaries are fixed and that workers in the State can no longer afford such pains due to their poor remunerations”.
He said, “The removal of the fuel subsidy has triggered the cost of goods and services, which includes transportation costs and other basic needs”.
He called on the Federal Government to handle the situation at hand expeditiously and put an end to the suffering of vulnerable people.
Likewise, called on the Delta State Government as a matter of urgency to put measures in place to alleviate the sufferings of workers in the State and the entire citizenry.
He stressed that ” such measures to include tax reduction, increase in basic salaries, transport, and other utility allowances, provision of buses for transport at subsidized rate”.
He pointed out that, “the people were suffering daily, stressing that if nothing was done immediately, the situation may get out of hand as “A hungry man is an angry man”.
While he “appealed to workers to be patient and continue to do their jobs while expecting the government to remedy the situation of things as soon as possible”.
