The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old mother of two, identified simply as Lilian, for allegedly stabbing her lover to death during a domestic quarrel in the state.
The incident occurred on Monday at Ijanpa Road, where Lilian was said to have attacked her 34-year-old partner, with whom she had been cohabiting for four years.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Wednesday via his official X handle, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said the suspect admitted to stabbing the deceased in the chest following a heated altercation.
According to Edafe, the young woman narrated during interrogation that the dispute began after her partner allegedly informed her of his decision to end their relationship.
She claimed he assaulted her with a cane and slammed her head against the ground, prompting her to rush to the kitchen, where she picked up a knife and stabbed him.
“I have been living with him for four years now and I have two boys with him. The first child is three years old and the other is two.
“On Monday, I don’t know what triggered him but we stopped talking. I asked him to collect the meter from our neighbour to recharge electricity but he ignored me. We argued and he started beating me with a cane.
“After he smashed my head on the ground, I rushed to the kitchen to pick up a knife,” she reportedly told investigators.
The police spokesperson, while condemning the act, warned against uncontrolled anger and domestic violence, stressing that such situations often lead to irreversible tragedies. He confirmed that the suspect would be charged with murder.
This development comes barely a month after another violent stabbing was reported in the state, involving the Chairman of Ekpan Community in Uvwie Local Government Area, Comrade Victory Nanakparo, who was accused of stabbing a woman identified as Tessy William multiple times during a dispute.
