Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested seven suspected kidnappers, rescued three abducted victims, and intercepted 178 live cartridges in coordinated operations across multiple communities in the state.
The breakthroughs, achieved through intelligence-driven raids in Bomadi, Ubeji and Asaba areas, were disclosed on Friday, in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
According to the statement, officers attached to the Bomadi Police Division, led by CSP Adie Peter Bissong, intercepted a motorcycle along the Bomadi–Tuomo Road around 12:30pm on Wednesday.
A 62-year-old woman identified as Charter Timide was arrested after officers discovered a sack containing 178 cartridges carefully concealed for delivery.
The elderly suspect was reportedly on her way to Tuomo Community when the ammunition was uncovered during a stop-and-search operation carried out in collaboration with local vigilante members.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to purchasing the cartridges from Onitsha Main Market,” the police spokesperson said, adding that investigators are tracing possible links to criminal networks and illegal arms dealers.
In a separate raid, operatives of the Ekpan Division stormed Ubeji Community near the Ubeji Gas Plant at about 11:40am following a distress call on a kidnapping incident.
The suspects, who initially fled into an abandoned poultry house, were arrested after the area was cordoned off by operatives deployed by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Labe Joseph.
Those arrested include: Felix Omone (33), Solomon Omone (29), Tony Eboye (34), Omone David (32), Jerry Omone (33), Godspower Omone (25) and Edewho Bomele (33).
Three kidnapped victims from Jeddo Community were rescued unhurt and reunited with their families.
Police investigations showed that the victims were abducted at a dredging site and ferried across a river, with the suspects threatening to kill them if ransom demands were not met.
Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the operatives for their swift response and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping, armed robbery and illegal arms proliferation in the state.
He urged residents to continue providing timely intelligence and avoid shielding criminals.
