In a swift and decisive operation, operatives from the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-crime squad of the Delta State Police Command successfully rescued five worshippers who were abducted during a vigil at Elyon Paradise Ministry, Ogwashi-uku.

The rescue operation, which took place on Tuesday, also saw the recovery of N1.3 million in ransom money along with other crucial exhibits.

According to a statement released by the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, on Friday, the rescue operation was a culmination of intense efforts following distress calls about the kidnapping incident.

The deployment of tactical teams such as Dragon, Eagle Net, RRS, and the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-crime squad, spearheaded by CP Olufemi Abaniwomda, yielded immediate results.

“On the 25th of February 2025, CSP Label Joseph, commander of the squad, led his operatives in collaboration with vigilantes from the Ubulu-Uku community and human rights activists to storm the Ubulu-Uku forest,” stated Mr. Edafe.

“Through meticulous intelligence gathering, they traced the kidnappers to their hideout.

Upon confrontation, the kidnappers opened fire, prompting our officers to respond with equal force. Overwhelmed, the criminals abandoned their captives and fled with gunshot wounds.”

All five victims, who had been held since the 22nd of February, were safely rescued and reunited with their families. Fortunately, they sustained no injuries during their ordeal.

While the perpetrators managed to escape, Mr. Edafe assured the public that extensive efforts are underway to apprehend them.

He urged community members to trust and support the police by providing any relevant information that could aid in restoring peace and security across the state.
