Delta Woman Arrested For Allegedly Throwing 10-Month-Old Baby Into River

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a young woman for allegedly throwing her 10-month-old baby into a river in Delta State, sparking outrage and calls for caution against societal shaming.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement issued to journalists in Warri on Sunday.

“Here is a lady who threw her 10-month-old baby into the river,” SP Edafe said, revealing the shocking incident.

When questioned about her actions, the woman reportedly attributed her decision to persistent abuse and ridicule from friends and other women who mocked her over the child’s lack of a father.

“She said her friends and other women abuse and shame her, saying the child does not have a father, and that’s the reason she threw the baby away,” SP Edafe explained.

While condemning the act, the police spokesman urged society to be more cautious with their words, emphasizing the impact of verbal abuse on vulnerable individuals.

“That’s not a justification for her action, but we should also be mindful of what we say to people,” Edafe added.

The tragic incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with many calling for measures to address societal stigma and improve mental health support for struggling mothers.

The Delta State Police Command assured the public that the matter is under investigation and that the law would take its course.
