The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Osogbo, on Thursday hosted students of Ebunoluwa International School, Osogbo, in an educational excursion aimed at deepening their understanding of Nigeria’s electoral process and democratic institutions.
The visit, held at the INEC Osun State office, exposed the students to the Commission’s structure, functions, and operational mechanisms.
It also featured an interactive session with the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, who personally addressed the students and their teachers.
Speaking during the session, Dr. Agboke highlighted INEC’s constitutional mandate, operational responsibilities, and commitment to conducting transparent and credible elections across the country.
He explained various components of election management, including voter registration, issuance of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), and the collation of election results.
“INEC remains steadfast in ensuring that every election reflects the will of the people,” Agboke said. “As young Nigerians, you have a vital role to play in sustaining democracy by embracing honesty, civic duty, and respect for due process.”
The students, visibly excited, engaged the REC and his team with thought-provoking questions on voter education, election credibility, and the fight against electoral malpractice.
Commending their curiosity, Dr. Agboke charged the students to become ambassadors of integrity and civic awareness in their communities. He also praised the management of Ebunoluwa International School for their initiative in exposing students to practical aspects of governance and public institutions.
As part of the excursion, the students were taken on a guided tour of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) unit, where they observed firsthand how eligible voters are registered and attended to.
The educational visit concluded with a group photograph featuring Dr. Agboke, members of INEC’s management team, and the visiting students.
