In a bid to ignite early interest in advertising and marketing among young Nigerians, Dentsu Nigeria has launched a career mentorship programme targeting students in public secondary schools.

The initiative, held under the global One Day for Change (ODfC) campaign, took place at Army Children Secondary School, Ikeja, Lagos.

ODfC is an annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event by Dentsu’s global network, aimed at uniting teams to contribute meaningfully to their local communities..

This year’s campaign focused on four global themes: “How We Live with Nature,” “How We Use Things,” “How We Eat,” and “How We Support Each Other.” Dentsu Nigeria adopted the fourth theme to mentor students and expose them to the possibilities within the advertising industry.

Speaking on the initiative, Group Chief Executive Officer of MediaFuse-Dentsu Nigeria, Emeka Chris Okeke, said the goal was to “catch them young and show them a path.”

    > “Dentsu Nigeria has a long history of supporting education. We believe it’s our responsibility to inspire and empower students to explore the vast world of marketing and advertising,” he added.

The mentorship session featured interactive classes anchored by top Dentsu professionals across four key career areas: Digital, Creative, Core Media, and Finance. Each stream aimed at demystifying the advertising ecosystem and helping students understand how their talents could fit into it.

In the Digital stream, Wilfred Emmanuel, Senior Digital Performance Manager, explained how data and technology shape today’s marketing landscape, sparking excitement among the students.

Creative Content Manager, Ezechimerem Ohaegbulam, walked the students through storytelling, design, and idea generation in the Creative session. For Core Media, Chidinma Ugoji-Eke, Senior Media Executive at Carat Media Nigeria, shed light on media planning and campaign delivery.

Oluwatosin Ogundele, Finance Business Partner at Dentsu Performance Nigeria, introduced students to budgeting and financial literacy, emphasizing the role of finance in campaign execution and business management.

Describing the initiative as more than a one-off CSR drive, Kelani Mustapha, Human Resource Manager at MediaFuse-Dentsu Nigeria, noted that the programme is part of a long-term commitment to nurturing future industry leaders.

    > “We’re not just sparking interest—we’re building a pipeline of future professionals who can one day shape the industry,” Mustapha said.

The event ended with souvenir presentations and interactive Q&A sessions. Outstanding participants were recognised, and plans are underway to select a few students for immersive learning visits to Dentsu Nigeria’s offices.
