The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has disclosed the arrest of two security personnel accused of colluding with terrorists in Nigeria’s North-East region.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, made the revelation during a press briefing on Friday, noting that the two were members of hybrid forces operating alongside regular troops in counter-insurgency missions.
According to Kangye, the arrests were made between April 26 and 29 during a coordinated military operation across Bama, Kukawa, and Madagali local government areas of Borno and Adamawa states.
The arrested suspects were among four individuals apprehended for allegedly supplying logistics to terrorists.
“In a well-coordinated operation conducted from 26–29 April 2025 in Bama, Kukawa, and Madagali LGAs of Borno and Adamawa states, troops intercepted four terrorists’ logistics suppliers. Sadly, two of them were confirmed to be members of the hybrid forces,” Kangye stated.
Describing their actions as a “betrayal,” the Defence Headquarters warned commanders to educate their men on the dangers of sabotage and urged vigilance within the ranks.
Kangye stressed the importance of rooting out insider threats in order to sustain the military’s momentum in the fight against terrorism.
Meanwhile, Kangye also reported that troops, working with hybrid forces, conducted offensive operations in several Borno State LGAs, including Gwoza, Dikwa, Bama, Chibok, Gujba, Geidam, and Yunusari.
The operations reportedly resulted in the killing of several terrorists, the rescue of six kidnap victims, and the recovery of arms, ammunition, motorcycles, and bicycles.
In a related development, troops in the South-South region recorded successes in combating oil theft and illegal refining.
Over 86,000 litres of stolen crude oil, 72,000 litres of illegally refined diesel, and more than 2,600 litres of petrol were recovered.
Dozens of illegal refining sites were also dismantled, and several assets including boats, vehicles, tricycles, and storage facilities were seized.
The military assured the public of its continued commitment to safeguarding the country and urged citizens to support security agencies with timely information.
