In a recent development, the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of a dismissed Nigeria Air Force officer, along with a civilian and their active-duty military associates.
Operatives of the FID-STS intercepted the group while transporting military accouterments from Kaduna State to Zamfara State, specifically in the Shinkafi Local Government Area, with the intention of supplying bandits.
The disclosure was made by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, during a press briefing on Monday at the IRT Headquarters in Abuja.
Adejobi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, revealed that the apprehended individuals were found in possession of 10 sets of military camouflage uniforms, 10 camel packs, and various other items.
“On 20/12/2023 at about 1230hrs, the FID-STS operatives intercepted the movement of military accouterments from Kaduna to Zamfara state, precisely in Shinkafi LGA.
Subsequently, a spot search was conducted, leading to the recovery of 10 sets of military camouflage uniforms, 10 pieces of camel pack, 12 military hats, 3 cardigans, 3 t-shirts, 2 belts, and 3 anklets,” Adejobi explained.
The arrested suspects, Mushiri Abubakar (28 years old) and Ahmed Mohammed (40 years old), were identified.
Abubakar, a childhood friend of a former Air Force personnel court-martialed after a five-year service, was introduced to the illegal trade of military accouterments.
Further investigations unveiled that Abubakar had previously supplied military materials to the notorious Bello Turji.
Adejobi informed the public that the civilian suspects involved in the criminal acts are currently detained at a police facility, while the serving military counterparts face trial within the military justice system.
This operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement to combat the illicit supply of military equipment to criminal elements, safeguarding national security.
